Quadriga

Annual forage leguminous tap-rooted plant. Can be used in biannual rotation crop with grain cereals. Used for different purposes: pasture, forage and hay production, green manure, seed production. Especially cultivated in the center and south of Italy, but interest in this species is growing fast.

Technical characteristics

Agronomic characteristics:

quiet rustic plant, easy adaptable to different types of soils. Preferring mixed soils, it can also grow on limey and clayey ones. It grows better on moist but not waterlogged soils, it is also resistant to dry ones. Can be cultivated alone or together with other grassland plants.

Sowing:

autumn with 30-40 kg/ha of seeds.

Production:

abundant cuttings at the end of spring and at the beginning of flowering, with 30-40 tons/ha of green forage very nutritive and especially palatable to livestock. Just before the first cutting, it is possible to obtain a second cutting for seed production, that can be extremely remunerative with variable yield ranging from 800 to 1200 kg/ha.

Tolerance:

frost tolerance also below -10°C for several days.
